Getting back Behind the Wheel

Posted by 'Funlayo on Saturday, July 10, 2010 In : Inspiration

The weekend is here! I pray you’ve all had a wonderful week and got much accomplished. Like many native New Yorkers, I did not get my driver’s license as a teen. I am, however, very proud to announce that I took and passed my road test on the first go ‘round and got my license yesterday – that's the celebratory rose petals on the dashboard up above – watch out road!

The path to me getting my license was long and winding. I learned how to drive when I was living in Florida, on ...

Quote for the Day: Your Deeds Speak

Posted by 'Funlayo on Thursday, July 1, 2010 In : Inspiration

An unknown author said:
The words we say will teach if we practice what we preach
I came across this quote today and it really spoke to me (pun intended! *laugh*); a recent incident led me to reflect on how often we are surrounded by those who tell rather than showing and whose words and actions don't match up. When words and deeds are incongruent, the deeds will always speak louder and will undermine the words no matter how flowery and eloquent the words may be. It is said that words have...

Clearing Away the..."Stuff"

Posted by 'Funlayo on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 In : Reflection

I had a great time at the United Nations on Saturday. Hearing from the likes of Dr. Majid Ali and Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely (pictured above with ’Funlayo) was wonderfully enriching and I was blessed to have an informative vision during the shamanic drumming portion of the program. All in all, a lovely, lovely morning!

Later in the day, I relaxed by the pool with a copy of Spirituality & Health Magazine (which I picked up at the conference) and I read something that really resonate...

Sé àláàfíà ni? (How are you?) I pray this day is finding you well. Summer is officially here as of the Summer Solstice on June 21st and the weather is certainly showing it here in New York. I'm gearing up for a few short trips to enjoy some sun and surf and I hope you're finding ways to have fun in the heat.

Summer is a time for vacations, reading, reflecting and gearing up for the harvest of the fall. Our hearts tend to be open and ready for pleasurable and enjoyment and we tend to ...

Please Don't Stop the Music

Posted by 'Funlayo on Thursday, May 20, 2010 In : Inspiration

Alaafia! I pray the day is treating you well. I had such a beautiful experience this past Sunday; I just had to share it with all of you. Aside from volunteering at the AIDS Walk (you can still donate until June 4th, by the way!) which was great fun, a good friend of mine invited me to a musical recital. This was no ordinary recital, however, it was a beautiful and extraordinary display and testament to the power of music to do wonderful things within people.

Daniel's Music is a New Yo...
