What I learned from a Banana

Blessed greetings! You know, our teachers come in many forms – they don’t always have to be people. I’ve learned a whole lot of things watching the tide roll in, watching birds hop and flit about and, most recently, I learned something from carrying a banana in my tote bag.

Bananas have thick skin – or so it seems. But if you ever carry a banana in your bag you’ll realize just how delicate they actually are. Upon pulling it out after as...

Pamper yourself with… Foot Baths

Posted by 'Funlayo on Sunday, September 19, 2010 In : Pamper Yourself

Happy Sunday! I hope the weekend has been enjoyable thus far. Have any of you moved recently? If so, you know the time it takes to get unpacked, acclimated to a new space and to make your peace with having left the old place behind. One part of my recent move has thrown me off more than any other … get this:

There’s no bathtub! *sad face*

As baths are a ritual part of my relaxation regimen, I have been trying to find ways to incorporate some bath-like elements into my new environment. Whe...

Blessed greetings! Ba wo ni? (How are things?) I pray, as always, that you are well and bright as you read this. I’m just about settled into my new digs and I was blessed to celebrate my birthday with good friends at the beautiful New England Aquarium and Boston Harbor (pictured above) earlier this month.

I have hit the ground running with my PhD work! It is truly exhilarating to be around so many bright, interesting and diverse people – part of why I love being with all of you here...

Relax, Relate, Release!

Posted by 'Funlayo on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 In : Reflection

Blessed greetings! I pray the day is treating you well. I've been busy, busy, busy getting ready for my big move to Massachusetts on Friday so I've been off the blog grid for a few days. If you've missed the posts, remember you can always get daily doses of inspiration from Ase Ire's Facebook or Twitter pages.

In the midst of all the preparation and excitement, I managed to take a few days to unwind in the beautiful Pocono mountains with my family. We had a lovely time relaxing, conne...

Pamper Yourself with... Bubbles!

Posted by 'Funlayo on Monday, August 2, 2010 In : Pamper Yourself

I pray your weekend was as fun-filled and love-filled as mine! My goddaughter and a friend of mine came over to help me with the packing process I'm currently engulfed in and another friend made what turned out to be a treacherous bus journey from to DC to New York to see me before I make my way to Bawstin. I had a great time with her playing tourist in my own city, that's one of the pictures above. It's beautiful to have people who love you and who you can depend on; Ifa says that useless ...

Odu Reflection: When Helter Isn't Skelter

Posted by 'Funlayo on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 In : Reflection

Ever feel like life is spinning out of control? At one moment or another, I think we all have and it’s not a good feeling. But sometimes, we need that spin out, that commotion, that… raw energy to take us out of our comfort zone, to make us take a good look at our current situation and to help us muster the courage to make necessary changes.

Recently, the odù Ifá Ogunda Otura was revealed during a divination session at which I was present. My mentor explained that this odù is k...

Blessed greetings! I've been getting a lot of mail from readers lately and I must say E SE PUPO (THANK YOU VERY MUCH) for your support and for reaching out! Ase Ire is all about good feelings and knowledge so nothing makes me happier than to hear that my words have inspired someone or taught him or her something.

One of the letters I got recently was from a reader who is a Iyawo, or a new initiate into the Ifá-Òrìsà tradition. The period following initiation -- or any major life change...
