Alaafia! Summer storms are brewing today in New York, but the forecast for Saturday is sunny and mild which is perfect for the African Film Festival! The Festival was established in 1990 and it's grown bigger and better every year since. With events taking place in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and on the lovely Governor's Island, there's plenty of opportunity to join in the festivities!

This Saturday is the Festival's Family Day which will take place on Governor's Island from noon to 5pm. The day will feature dance lessons in Sabar, Afro-Brazilian and Guinean dance, storytelling, double dutch demonstrations and more! Of course, as it is a film festival, short movies by African film makers will be shown throughout the day. There will also be food from various African countries and plenty of grass and fresh air.

Come on out, bring the kids and have a wonderful time. Follow me on Twitter, I'll be live tweeting from the festival. Hope to see you there!
